Description:
This Colmar monument, named for the sculptured heads on its stone facade, is the town's leading hotel and one of its top restaurants. It opens off a covered cobblestone drive and courtyard. The 17th-century house lies in the center of town, near the Unterlinden Museum. The dining rooms are decorated with aged-wood beams and paneling, Art Nouveau lighting fixtures, and stained glass and leaded windows. The excellent food includes foie gras with truffles, choucroute, seasonal roebuck with morels and dried fruits, roasted duck with two spices, and fresh trout or Rhine salmon braised in Riesling. The Alsatian wines are sublime. There are also 21 nicely furnished rooms with minibars and TVs; some have Jacuzzis. Rates are 115€ to 175€ ($167-$254) for a double, 215€ to 239€ ($312-$347) for a suite.
