Description:
This is one of the most popular wine taverns in Cologne. It's housed in an office building and opens onto the old fish-market square and the Rhine. The two-story dining room and service bar are antique in style. Provincial cabinets hold a varied wine collection. A wide cantilevered wooden staircase leads to mezzanine tables. Though the wine is the main reason for coming here (it's that special), the cuisine is also excellent. A specialty is Rheinischer sauerbraten with almonds, raisins, and potato dumplings. You can also order marinated roast beef in a dark-brown vinegar sauce with raisins, or else escalope of veal with roast potatoes and a mixed salad.
