  • Excellent views of the Rocky Mountains will remind any visitor that Colorado Springs is a gem of a destination for the outdoor person who wants to do it all. An excellent place to begin your visit to Colorado Springs is the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum. Housed in the former El Paso County Courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, the exhibits depict the community's rich history, including its beginning as a fashionable resort, the railroad and mining eras, and its growth and development in the 20th century. You can ride an Otis birdcage elevator, which dates to the early 1900s, to the restored original courtroom, where several Perry Mason episodes were filmed. A series of murals depicts over 400 years of Pikes Peak region history.

You can hike, ride or drive to Colorado's most iconic summit, Pikes Peak. Towering 14,110 feet above Colorado Springs, this mountain serves as one of the nation's most famous landmarks. Access to the summit can be obtained via the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, or by driving the Pikes Peak Highway which winds through stands of pine and aspen before cresting above tree line. Katherine Lee Bates was so moved by her visit to the summit that it inspired her to pen "America the Beautiful."

Tour the stunning campus of the US Air Force Academy. This scenic pine-filled campus with a Rocky Mountain backdrop is home to America's future Air Force officers. Enter Colorado's third most popular attraction at the North Gate for a glimpse of a B-52 bomber. Travel six miles to the visitor center, chock-full of exhibits, short films and a gift shop. Tour the stunning Cadet Chapel with 17 magnificent spires reaching 150 feet into the sky. Or check out Falcon Stadium where the Air Force Falcons Football team plays, and keep an eye above where the skies are colored with parachuting cadets and Thunderbird jets. You'll never run out of things to do in Colorado Springs.
