User Review:
- As 'Mahawansa', the 'Great Chronicle' and other historical books say, in ancient times, most Sri Lankan kings united and took actions to develop the whole country through increasing challenges. Caves, hills, mountains and rocks were chosen at most times by ancient kings as hiding places for protection from enemy forces, because they were difficult to reach for the enemies. After the arrival of Buddhism, Sri Lankan kings took refuge in the Buddha, his doctrine and his order. Therefore due to the veneration for the three refuges of the doctrine Buddhism sacred places were built in the hiding places. After defeating the enemies the kings might order to build temples in their hiding places. Theras protect those temples and ancient sacred places from those ancient times to the present without considering their own lives. 'Mampita' ancient rock cave rajamaha viharaya is one of the ancient sacred temples which are constructed by king Valagamba. The Buddhists who sponsor this sacred place live in the surrounded villages such as Mampita, Walpola, Nelumdeniya, Palapoluwa, Assellapane and Leeniyakaduwa
