User Review:
- The fort has originally built by the Portuguese on the headland guarding the lagoon in about One Thousand Six Hundred. Since there was rich spices and particularly the much priced cinnamon, it change hands several times before the portuguse were finally ousted by the dutch in 1644. In attempting to make Negombo an important centre, the Dutch built a much stronger structure, but this was largely destroyed by the british who pulled much of it down to build a jail.
