Description:

  • Bremen Live opened early in 2010 in the old Merkur Theater close to Vesterport Station, a former cinema owned by one of Denmark's most eccentric entrepreneurs, the very colorful Simon Spies, and more recently used by Privat Teatret (a theatrical company dissolved in 2007). The idea behind Bremen is to bring comedy and cabaret shows to a wide and mainstream Copenhagen audience—rather than the small, intimate venues this genre is generally limited to. With a capacity of more than 600, the large stage of Bremen offers a broad repertoire, from live concerts with upcoming as well as more established names and stand-up comedy that includes popular comic Frank Hvam's regular Tuesday night Bitter Baby comedy Club. Bremen is the venue for national broadcaster TV2's Friday night variety show 'Live fra Bremen' (and thus has absolutely nothing to do with Germany). Comedy for English-speaking guests is a little limited, though the theater does host international touring acts from time to time.
