Det Kongelige Teater

Description:

  • Established in 1748, the landmark building of the Royal Danish Theatre on Kongens Nytorv Square may symbolize Copenhagen's theatrical history, but its actual role in the Danish capital's current performing arts scene is limited these days to ballet: Other theatrical productions take place at either the state-of-the-art Royal Danish Opera House (Operaen) or the even newer Royal Danish Playhouse (Skuespilhuset). Even so, the chance to enjoy a ballet on the beautiful old stage or 'gamle scenen' of the old theater building is a real joy. Tickets vary in price depending on where you sit, and it's possible to find a cheap seat in the stalls or balcony by checking out the box office's same day late sales from 6pm. One-off cheap 'taster' ballet evenings take place a handful of times a year, called 'Dans2Go'.
