Forget all you've heard about Scandinavian hotel rooms being all the same: These days, Copenhagen's lodging has turned boutique. Out is being as plain and functional as an IKEA show room: In is smart design and one-of-a-kind rooms.
As the only hotel in Denmark to make Conde Nast Traveller's Gold List, Hotel Nimb on the edge of Tivoli proves that a design hotel doesn't have to be big and brash. With just 13 rooms, this small, charming hotel just oozes opulence and good taste, combining four-poster beds and real fireplaces with state-of-the-art technology.
Those looking for a very different sleeping experience need to try one of the 61 individually decorated rooms in design hotel Fox, no two of which are alike. Fox (along with Avenue) is also one of the most affordable options on our list.
Those who enjoy the Danish design of the '40s and '50s will truely appreciate elegant Hotel Alexandra, a retro design hotel filled with original Danish furniture classics. And while we're on the subject of Danish designers, no list would be complete without the world's very first design hotel—room 606 at the Radisson Blu Royal remains the very same as it was the day Arne Jacobsen designed it in 1960.
