  • A hotel near Copenhagen's City Hall Square Rådhuspladsen means a stay right in the heart of things. Whether you're on a sightseeing quest or to hit the city's shops, Copenhagen's most popular meeting point, at the foot of vast shopping street Strøget, is about as central as it gets.

Two hotels can be found directly on the square. The oldest, The Palace Hotel, recently celebrated its centenary; when it was built it was the biggest hotel in Scandinavia. Opposite, the modern and stylish Square offers a very different kind of stay and is filled with smart design features. What both have in common are modern amenities and a high level of service.

The whole area is buzzing with design hotels: From slick Hotel Twentyseven, with its popular cocktail lounge and the adjoining Icebar Copenhagen, to the exclusive retro design of the elegant Alexandra. Hotel Fox meanwhile, can be found a little further from the square, and while the design of the Radisson Blu Royal might seem a bit dated in comparison, the Arne Jacobsen landmark was once a world-first.

Other hotels are filled with history: Former coaching inn Kong Frederik has been wonderfully restored in an English townhouse style by the First Hotels group, while Ascot Hotel is situated in a former bathing house dating from 1901.

Budget visitors should stroll down to nearby Downtown Hostel, a lively, well-equipped and modern hostel with an international vibe and rooms in a variety of sizes.
