From 25th-floor window seats to historic basements, Copenhagen's most romantic restaurants can be found in the most interesting locations. What they all have in common is a warming atmosphere that goes beyond a couple of candles-and gorgeous food to melt every heart.
Our number one choice is, rather unsurprisingly, an Italian restaurant in a wonderful canal side location in Christianshavn. Era Ora is Copenhagen's only Italian restaurant to have received a Michelin-star and the food here is not only stunningly presented but tastes out of this world. Be warned though, you might find the prices equally astronomical-and booking well in advance is necessary.
While Sankt Gertruds Kloster may not offer cuisine on quite the same level as Era Ora, it makes up for this with its location, a 14th-century monastery, and its stone walls and candlelit tables lend an atmosphere unique in Copenhagen. The restaurant reopened in 2009 with new owners and a rather more Scandinavian menu.
Other romantic restaurants with memorable locations include the delightful covered courtyard of Frederiks Have, overlooking the park of Frederiksberg Have, and the 25th-floor Dining Room at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel, with its amazing views of the city and beyond.
A few of the wild cards on our list prove that romantic dining doesn't have to cost the earth: The fresh decor and attentive service of gourmet Greek restaurant Taverna Philoxenia, the healthy, colorful dishes of Østerbro's Indian eatery Bindia and the exotic interior of downtown Japanese/Korean restaurant Sakura all offer more unusual romantic settings.
