The area around Copenhagen's Central Train Station offers a wide variety of restaurants in all price ranges and a truely international choice of cuisines, so whether you're planning on reserving a table at one of the city's top restaurants or hoping to stuff yourself for under DKK 100, it's all possible in this crammed square mile.
Top of our list is the smart and classy Nimb Brasserie: more egalitarian than the upstairs Herman, there is a smart à la carte menu and even a children's menu available. Another upmarket choice is Alberto K, the penthouse restaurant of 60s design hotel and Arne Jacobsen masterpiece The Royal.
The ground floor of recently renovated Hotel Kong Frederik is home to gastro pub Public House, styled in a dark wood, nostalgic English style and with a menu that offers Brit faves like Fish and chips and beef wellington. It's part of the Cofoco chain (whose mission has been to bring low-cost gourmet cuisine to the people) but is a little different to the group's flagship restaurant, which now operates on the concept of choosing four smallish dishes from a daily changing list for the very reasonable DKK 275.
Those on a budget needn't head to the nearest pizza grill when there are so many excellent and inexpensive Asian restaurants in the immediate area. These range from the country's first Pakistani restaurant, cheapo Shezan, to the more modern-looking Thai joint Spicylicious and Tivoli's noodle bar Wagamama. For those willing to spend a little more, Vietnamese restaurant Lê Lê has become a firm favorite with its colonial French bistro style infused with the best of the Vietnamese kitchen.
