Copenhagen's romantic attractions are filled with understated charm. Never flashy or ostentatious, the Danish capital slowly seduces its guests with picturesque canals, elegant parks and gardens and fairy-tale castles once inhabited by fascinating kings and queens.
Even the least romantic traveler will find his or her heart warming just a little after a horse and trap ride from Klampenborg Station and into the sun-dappled, tree-lined avenues of Dyrehaven forest north of Copenhagen. Another great thing to do guaranteed to enchant those with a romantic inclination is a visit to the baroque park of Frederiksborg Palace, situated in Hillerød some 30 km north of Copenhagen. These elaborate, ornate gardens date from 1725 and are reminiscent of Parisian Versailles.
Less far afield, why not invite your loved one to a ride on a paddle boat on the lake of Frederiksberg Have? Alternatively, star-crossed lovers can gaze it each other, as well as Copenhagen, as they glide through the city's canals; to ensure you're left in peace, we recommend taking one of the canal tours available without a guide.
Watch the city from above by walking up the unique spiral ramp to the top of the 17th-century observatory Round Tower, to enjoy a skyline that hasn't changed much in four centuries. From the middle of October to the middle of March it's possible for stargazers to visit the tower on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, when the observatory is open to the public.
