Description:

  • This rather bohemian bar/cafe on the corner of Nansensgade has a very loyal clientele who come here for the friendly neighborhood vibe—which manages to be international and local at the same time—as well as the range of international newspapers, the home-cooked food and the range of bottled and draught beers. The varied menu includes hearty breakfasts, sandwiches and salads and hot evening mains, taking inspiration from all over the world and with plenty of options for vegetarians, all at reasonable prices. A glass of tap water will cost you 5kr, but before you start to complain, this money all goes to fund clean water projects in Africa.
The name, which means 'bankrupt,' dates back to its opening in 1989, an event that just seemed to be continuously postponed. Although the cafe did finally open (to great success), the nickname stuck. The decor is wild; you may have seen a place decked out with stuffed animals before, but it's the tableaux that they've been arranged into, as well as the smart little outfits specially made for them that make them so unique. These amazing talking points are all the work of local artist Filip Jensen.
