Expectations are high for Tivoli's brand-new Madklubben ('the food club'), a little brother to the business' Bistro de Luxe downtown and taking over the elegant, glass conservatory-style premises of the now-closed Ketchup from the start of Tivoli's 2011 season. Unlike Bistro de Luxe, however, the affordable French bistro menu has been replaced with Danish food – following the same philosophy of top quality at low prices that is the Madklubben trademark. If this place lives up to the expectations, it's sure to be packed almost all the time. Classic hot and cold Danish dishes include tarteletter, fish frikadeller, Russian beetroot salad and herring on rye bread; the concept is to choose a variety of small dishes (with a recommendation of three per person) at DKK 50 each for the lunch menu, and a choice of 1-4 courses for the evening meal at DKK 100-250. This being Tivoli, children's portions are also available. On Fridays, a special 3-course menu is served for DKK 350. All in all, if you're a beginner to the world of Danish cuisine, this is a great place to start.
