Copenhagen's most popular park (visited by an estimated 2.5 million people every year) the gardens surrounding Rosenborg Palace
are also Denmark's oldest, having been established as long ago as the early 17th-century, along with the palace and in a similar lavish, renaissance style. Today the gardens are a pleasant mix of well-ordered flower beds, tree-lined avenues and sculptures and open lawns ideal for picnics, ball games and sun bathing. There is also a playground, summer cafe, a top class restaurant (Orangeriet) and the children's puppet theater 'Marionetteatret' that plays during the summer months.
