• 'Torvehallerne' is the name of the new covered markets on Israels Plads that opened in September 2011. Partly a revival of the old green market that closed in 1958, and partly a rather chic gourmet center for expensive tastes, with booths from some of the city's top restaurateurs and food traders, including Cofoco, Ma Poule and Tante T. Meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and even kitchen appliances can be bought here, as well as sandwiches and coffee. Specialties come from Italy, Asia and the Baltic island of Bornholm. In addition to the two covered halls, there are also a good number of outside stands.
