Description:
The dignified and elegant 19th-century building housing this seafood restaurant is similar to many of its neighbors in this quiet residential neighborhood north of the Mezquita, but has the distinction of sitting across the street from the birthplace of Spain's most famous bullfighter, Manolete (Manuel Rodríguez Sancho, born here July 4, 1917). Inside, you'll find some spectacular Mudéjar-style tilework, a series of cozy dining rooms, and a plant-studded patio good for romantic dining. The best dishes on the regular menu include salmorejo, the thick tomato soup of Andalusia; broad beans with strips of cured Iberian ham; spicy sausages with potatoes; pork chops braised over charcoal; succulent veal steaks; pasta with codfish; and a savory hake and shellfish stew. A separate fish menu reflects the array of seafood hauled in daily from the fishing port of Almuñécar.
