  • Description:

    • While the Inquisition was raging at the Alcázar, this was the lavish home of the bishops of Córdoba, who might be called hangmen by today's standards. Facing the Mezquita, their former palace has been turned into a museum of religious art, with illustrated prayer books, tapestries, sculpture, and paintings. To our surprise, we discovered some works here by Julio Romero de Torres. These paintings are tame, however, in comparison to some of his more controversial work . The wood sculptures of the Middle Ages are the best of the lot, along with a vast array of art from the Renaissance and baroque periods.
