NileGuide Expert Says:
Go with a partner to hold your legs while you're upside down reaching your lips for the Blarney Stone.
Description:
- Legend has it that the gift of eloquence shall be bestowed upon anyone who kisses the Blarney Stone. Set in the wall below the castle battlements, the visitor, in order to kiss it, is grasped by the feet and leans backwards under the parapet. Blarney Castle was built in 1446 by Dermot McCarthy and its design is typical of a 15th century tower house. The grounds include an arboretum and gardens. Last admission thirty minutes before closing. Admission: adults EUR7, seniors EUR5, students EUR5, children 8-14 EUR2.50, family (2 adults and 2 children) EUR16. Tour leaders, guides and drivers are free. Timings are usually from 9a-6p. They vary slightly by season. However, the castle is closed on December 24th and 25th.
