• Cafe Expresivo has earned itself a place in Costa Rica's nightlife lists, though it's a fine place to hang by day as well. Relaxed and laid-back, the space is more than just as cafe; it is a restaurant, a gallery, and often an art gallery with the occasional DJs spinning danceable beats.  Sometimes it's a live performance, others it's open mike featuring story-telling marathons, and once in awhile you can catch live folk music and jazz concerts. Even if there is nothing specific going on, Cafe Expresivo's atmosphere make it inviting for just plain sitting around, sipping a drink and absorbing the chilled out vibe. Part New York style, part Euro, but mostly Costa Rica, Cafe Expresivo is not for those looking for a wild night out on the town, but instead it is a great location to tuck into alone or with a small group of friends, meet new people, and just relax. Cafe Expresivo is located in Barrio Escalante, a nice area of the city, four blocks east of the Santa Teresita Church. It's open Tuesday through Friday from noon to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to midnight.
