Las Gaviotas Hotel

• Situated just at the start of Golfito proper -- a short taxi or bus ride from the "downtown" -- Las Gaviotas has long been a popular choice. The waterfront location is the hotel's greatest asset. There is a long pier that attracts the sailboat and sportfishing crowd. For landlubbers, there's a small pool built out near the gulf. Guest rooms, which are set amid attractive gardens, all face the ocean, and although they're quite large, they're spartan and show their age. There are small, tiled patios in front of all the rooms, and the cabanas have little kitchens. A large, open-air restaurant looks over the pool to the gulf; it's a great view, but the food leaves much to be desired. Just around the corner is a large, open-air bar.
