La Sabana Park

  • NileGuide Expert tip:

Check out the new soccer stadium unveiled in the park.

  • Description:

    • La Sabana Park, also known as La Sabana Metropolitan Park, is San Jose's biggest and most impressive urban park. The former site of the country's international airport, now an expansive public park that has been renovated, replanted, and named "the lungs of the city." A picturesque lake is surrounded by paved trails, picnic benches, and many areas for sporting events, recreation, music concerts, and cultural festivals. Within its bounds, you'll also find La Salle Natural Science Museum, which houses more than 20,000 natural specimens from around the world, including a taxidermy collection and a preserved fish and reptile exhibit, plus a cool collection of Central and South American insects. A great place to spend the day relaxing or to take the whole family for some wholesome recreation, La Sabana is free to enter, and the park is easy to reach; ask any taxi driver, or your hotel concierge, to point you in the right direction.
