NileGuide Expert tip:
Don't miss "La Sala de Oro" in the Northeast tower.
Description:
- The national museum of Costa Rica houses a grand collection of ancient artifacts, gold, jade, costumes, colonial furniture, religious art and lots of historical exhibits. The building itself is a former military barracks called the Bellavista Fortress, a yellow building across from the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica still shows the scars of battle from the Civil War of 1948. The museum is organized by theme in a counter clockwise direction from the entrance. In addition to the permanent collection, the museum features a rotating exhibit of current cultural significance.
