With nearly 2000 artifacts, the Museo del Oro Pre-colombino is one of the world's most impressive collections of Pre-Colombian gold dating from 500-1500 AD, including coins, figurines, jewelry, and art. The museum is housed on three floors, throughout which visitors are invited to learn about the use and meaning of gold in Pre-Colombian culture. The building that houses this museum is noteworthy as well, called the Plaza de la Cultura, it is considered a real Costa Rican architectural gem designed by the architects Jorge Bertheau, Jorge Borbón and the late Edgar Vargas.
