Hacienda Tres Lagos

• Nestled near the southwest corner of spectacular Lake General Carrera, this estancia-style luxury resort has a lake -- and beach -- of its own. Accommodations vary from hotel suites in the main lodge to family-oriented, independent cabañas to romantic luxury apartments, but all share the lakefront view of Lago Negro and the Patagonian Andes beyond, have balconies or terraces with rattan furniture, and are finely decorated with great attention to detail -- guests even receive hotel iPods with speakers and music to suit the ambience.

  The main complex has its own telescope for stargazing, a game room with pool table, darts, and Ping-Pong, plus a stone fireplace where they do asados (traditional Patagonian barbecues). As befits its location, it offers plenty of outdoor activities on foot, horseback, and boat, or farther afield to the Tamango Nature Preserve to try to glimpse the endangered huemul deer. And, while not a fly-fishing lodge per se, it also offers several fly-fishing and trawling excursions in the area and a 6-day/5-night tour, as well as packages with Puyuhuapi Spa & Lodge.
