Description:

  • Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma, the following description may no longer be accurate. Please consider this when making your travel plans. This is the second day of a traditional holiday honoring the dead. Rather than being a sad day, this is a happy time when loved ones are remembered. Families set up "ofrendas" (altars) filled with candles, flowers, pan de puerto (bread), fruit and sugar skulls candy arranged around pictures of the departed ones. In the evening the entire family goes to the cemetery to clean the grave and decorate it with candles, flowers and anything the deceased one loved. The family then settles down for a picnic by the grave and passes the night singing and visiting with one another.
