Dia de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe

Description:

  • Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Wilma, the following description may no longer be accurate. Please consider this when making your travel plans. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and is considered the mother of all Mexicans. Her image - a beautiful dark-skinned woman surrounded by a shimmering gold aura - is seen everywhere in Mexico. At midnight on December 11, there is a candlelight procession to the Iglesia de San Miguel and Igelsia de Corpus Christi where everyone celebrates mass and offers special prayers to the Virgen Morena. Afterwards there are fireworks, music and dancing in Plaza Central. This holiday marks the beginning of Christmas celebrations throughout Mexico. Admission is free.
