- Throughout the Catholic world, October is the month dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Since the rosary is a particular form of prayer associated with Mother Mary, it remains an important icon in Mexico. In fact, rosary means 'crown of roses' and many Mexican statues of Mary show her wearing a crown of roses or holding a bouquet of roses. Our Lady of the Rosary feast day is celebrated by decorating the church with roses and holding special novenas using rosaries made out of rose petals. A candlelight procession proceeds the special mass.
