I am coming in on a cruise May 5, 2011. Any ideas where the best celebrations may be? We are two women who have never been to Mexico.

May 5th, also known as cinco de Mayo, is an official Mexican holiday. Banks are closed. Yet, it is not a very big celebration here in Mexico. It conmemorates the Battle of Puebla. Many think it is Mexico's independence day, but that is actually in September. If you go to the Downtown esplanade (La Plaza), there way be some folkloric dancing taking place. A restaurant or Hotel may put something together for tourists. For most Mexican's here in Mexico it is not a huge holiday.

Super answer Quickie...I think the best thing to do is have your own celebration....Guacamole....and lots of Margaritas and Tequila and just enjoy the Magic of Mexico!!
