El Pirata, right near the docks, is where the locals, who work in tourism, go to in that area for food and drink. The main town (San Miguel) is 10-minute taxi ride from the docks, and it's worth it to see more of a local flavor. If you do this, try Jeanie's (http://www.nileguide.com/destination/cozumel/restaurants/jeanie-s-restaurant/570556) or the No Name, both are on the water. The former has great food. The latter attracts a younger crowd, has a pool, and loud music. They are both close to great shopping.
