Hi, I am in Puerto Morelos and have only been to playa del carmen and cancun...not to Cozumel.
BUT, everyone keeps telling me I should take a little trip there and have a fun day or 2. So I can't imagine that there is much going on there that is bad if the locals are telling me to go with my small kids.

Not at all I live here and I still walk around all day long. I believe that everywhere even USA if you get involve in drugs most probably youll end up having problems but if your a regular person like me, not a problem. Enjoy the beach or do some other activities theres alot to do. Hopeyou enjoy it.

We live in Puerto Morelos and spend some times in Cozumel and Isla Mujeres, We walk at night most of the touristic areas and get back to our room with no trouble, never felt threatened, never felt in danger. I can't say that when I go to Minneapolis or Chicago (even in the summer time!!!). Don't look for troubles and the troubles won't find you.
Good luck.

There is nothing to worry about in this area. Normal precautions apply for anywhere you visit. Don't walk alone at night in places that are not full of people, etc but not because of the drug cartels. This is just common sense stuff. So enjoy Cozumel!

I give you 3 stars on good question. All to many times I hear people are misinformed about the situation. There are areas of concern in the country. Cozumel is not one of them

Feel confident to get off the ship and explore either the island or mainland attractions. Use a reputable tour operator that is sensible to your schedule and you will not regret your visit!!!
Happy sailing!
