Cruz Velakuy

Description:

  • Also known as the "Fiesta de las Cruces" (Celebration of the Crosses), the festival coincides with the end of the agricultural season, in early May. During this celebration, thanks is given to the Pachamama (Mother Earth) for the nourishment she gives to her children. Many houses around the city set up crosses with candles left to burn all night. The celebratory atmosphere is enhanced by traditional punches made with beans. A large number of crosses can be observed around the city including one at the "Centro Qosqo de Arte Nativo."
