Museo Inka

Description:

  • The Museo Inka contains a large collection of artifacts documenting the course of Peruvian history from pre-Colombian cultures through Spanish conquest and into modern day Cusqueñan culture. Set in an enormous colonial mansion, the Museo Inka has an impressive display of Incan textiles, ceramics, jewelry and drinking vessels arranged throughout the mansion's sizeable two floors, and one should allow for one to two hours to see the entire collection. Apart from their wide array of artifacts, the museum presents evocative displays and informative explanations documenting Incan agriculture, politics, architecture, hydrology, religion and astronomical observations. A phenomenal museum for all ages, impressively preserved mummies and replicas of the famous Incan sites of Machu Picchu, Moray and Choquequirao are sure to keep kids enthralled, while thoughtful documentation on colonialism and the subsequent anti-colonial movement are sure to delight even the historian in the crowd. Entrance is s/10 for adults and half price for children. Open Monday through Friday from 8am-7pm, and Saturdays and holidays from 9am-4pm.
