San Pedro Market

Address:

Calle Tupac Amaru
Cusco, Peru

NileGuide Expert tip:

A juice at the market makes for an economical and filling breakfast. Juices are made fresh before your eyes, and the servings are so large that they are best shared with a friend. For the gutsy consumer, some juice stands provide a unique concoction that combines a live frog blended into the mix.

Description:

West of Cusco's Plaza de Armas the streets come alive with the hustle and bustle of street vendors, local Cusqueños in frantic search of household items and international street performers. The core of all of the commotion is the San Pedro plaza and market, an enormous and vibrant warehouse that serves as a lively local bazaar. An out of the ordinary excursion in the heart of Cusco, the San Pedro market houses hundreds of vendors selling anything and everything imaginable, from therapeutic herbs to cow's heads. Open weekly from the wee hours of the morning until mid afternoon, plan for an hour to peruse through the many corridors and bargain for the perfect alpaca sweater.
