My husband and I plan to be fly to Cusco around 28th July for one week,

There is a big difference between hiring a driver with a 4x4 and one with a regular car. Peru is a mining country and the 4x4 are quite appreciated, and not only by the general public but by thieves as well. If not really necessary, as if you want to visit of the trail places, I will recommend a much lower profile vehicle. If it is just two of you,some remiss companies (taxis called by phone, with much better vehicles than regular street cabs) offer their services for hours or days, negotiable.
