Description:

  • A forest park in the eastern part of the city, it is divided into to two smaller parks -- Uam Sajeok Park (Uam Historical Park) and Central Square. Uam Sajeok Park was created to honor Confucian scholar Song Shi-yeol, who was tutor and political advisor to kings in the mid-1600s. When you walk into the front gate you'll see Namgangjeongsa, a 350-year-old tile-roofed pavilion used as a study by Song Shi-yeol. A small stream flows below the main hall into a pond in front of the complex. His portrait, wooden printing blocks of his writings, and his desk are on display in a small exhibition hall just up the hill from the pavilion. The original wooden plates were destroyed in a fire in 1907. The blocks that you see today were carved in 1929.
