Dalian, also known as China's "Hong Kong of the North," is home to beautiful beaches, stunning mountains, a hopping downtown scene and amazing shopping. It's easy to see that here you'll have to make some choices. Whatever your preferences, make time to ride the 801 Bus. The 801 makes a loop around the more popular parts of downtown Dalian, including Shengli (Victory) Square, Fujiazhuang and Xinghai Square. Check out the rich history of Dalian, and be sure to do a bit of research before heading into these areas; they're teeming with political histories and social events that are sure to peak your interest. When you've had your fill of the downtown, head to Tiger Beach Ocean Park and soak in the sun and sand. If a more secluded beach is on your agenda, Fu Jia Zhuang Park is unparalleled. After taking a splash in the waves, check out Xinghai Square, China's largest public square. Not to be missed is the Lushun Railway Station, site of Dalian's most amazing architecture in the area. For a panoramic view of Dalian, climb the path to Baiyu Hill and survey the surrounding lands. If you're in need of a complete escape from the city, take a boat to Changshan Archipelago or She Dao, one of the region's most well-known islands.
