• After years of planning and a squillion dollar fitout almost a decade ago, ARQ stills pulls the muscly tanned gay crowd as if it was the new kid on the block. With one of Sydney's best sound and lighting setups, it's a venue with the lot: nightclub, bars galore exuding a different vibe, depending on your mood, as well as a restaurant.
  The actual nightclub sprawls over two dance floors. Upstairs is the large Arena. When not hosting big-time live music, dance and special events, it's a heaving, seething mass of pulsating sweaty bodies. Downstairs is the aptly named Vortex, a sometimes impenetrable blur of smoke, lasers, poles, podiums and revolving doors. Crowd is a mix of gay and straight, without much aggro or attitude too.
  A long roster of impressive local DJs is supported by choice international imports. What ARQ seems to do better than most - and probably why it stays at the top of the game - is its special theme nights. There's the famous FOMO foam parties; Burlesque generally on Thursday; and Sydney's funkiest ladies night, Moist, happens on Fridays, where ARQ promises "eye candy galore and sows you have never seen before." If you've got any energy left at the end of that, there's always Sunday School to ease back into the working week!
