NileGuide Expert tip:
The Detroit Science Center is huge. Easily an all-day event for elementary-aged kids and older. Be sure to get your seat for the planetarium showing at the front desk upon arrival.
- The shiny, exaggerated building of the Detroit Science Center attracts the attention of children the second they spot it from the car. A couple of multiple-story domes and some primary colored sections help garner that attention. Inside the center, inviting exhibits beg the children to explore. They are free to push buttons, pull levers and smash things with mallets. The center offers enough age-appropriate exhibits to please the entire family, toddlers, grown-ups and everyone in between. The center is a bargain. The admission price includes one of the largest science museums in the country, a viewing within the engineering theater with active-ride seats, planetarium shows and a goose bump-inducing sensual experience in Michigan's only domed IMAX theater, which stands four stories tall.
