Shish Kabab

• Few local residents can even imagine La Romana without the Shish Kabab, an informal, well-managed restaurant with a polite and hardworking staff. Set within a few blocks of the Parque Central Duarte (La Romana's most central square), the restaurant serves Middle Eastern and international cuisine that's a wholehearted change of pace from Dominican fare. Naturally, the chefs specialize in kababs, but there are many other Middle Eastern specialties as well, notably baba ghanoush, with mashed eggplant studded with fresh parsley, fresh garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and sesame paste. The beef kababs are tastily grilled, and there's even a shish kabab pizza. Skewered grouper is yet another worthy specialty. Don't overlook the wall of this place that's covered, edge to edge, with frame photographs of the baseball stars, meringue singers, and politicians who have dined here.
