Air Mobility Command Museum (Dover Air Force Base)

Description:

  • This museum, located in a restored World War II hangar listed on the National Register of Historic Places, houses a collection of vintage aircraft and artifacts. Exhibits reflect the evolution and history of Dover Air Force Base, the hub of strategic airlifts in the eastern United States. The museum's first plane, a C-47A used in the 1944 D-Day paratroop drop over Normandy, was rejected in 1986 by other institutions as "hopeless to repair." You'll see it here, immaculately restored. A new flight simulator (open Wed and Sat 10am-2pm) gives visitors over age 10 the opportunity to "fly" the craft.
