• Perhaps coming here has become a bit of a cliché as far as locals are concerned, but it's still one of the most romantic dinner spots in town, and in a casual, unpretentious way. This is one of the only venues where you can dine by candlelight right on the beach, with a table-filled deck adjacent to the sand. Although you should request a table outside in good weather, take a moment to pass by the open kitchen inside. There, you will find an expertly orchestrated team of chefs hard at work, preparing the fish and steaks with just the right timing and seasonings. In hot weather, you can still enjoy the view of the Arabian Gulf from the cooled dining room with its stylish Moroccan decor. For fresh fish, I prefer the local hammour filet (grilled rather than pan-fried) served with sautéed vegetables. For steak, the Wagyu beef sirloin with thyme potatoes and asparagus is the best selection. Leave room for a piece of warm chocolate cake served with espresso ice cream, and then take a walk around the marvelous grounds of the Royal Mirage.
