- Established in 1999 by Sheik Marwan al-Mualla, the chairman of the Emirates Mortor Sports Federation, the Emirates Motorplex has caused quite a stir in Dubai. Created as a safer alternative to the popular street racing, the track draws large crowds from the city and its environs to watch some of the world's fastest cars compete in the year-round races. In addition to drag racing, the Motorplex is home to tracks for motocross and other racing sports, and plans to create a Go-Kart track, a Supercross track, and many more. In this city where driving is both a lifestyle necessity and a long-time spectacle, racing remains a largely unregulated "sport." However, the popularity of the Emirates Motorplex and its devotion to operating in accordance with international racing regulations promises to provide entertainment to its visitors for years to come.
