Street after street glitters with gold in this famous shimmering market, a must-see while you're in town. Dubai is the world's largest re-exporter of gold, and its Gold Souk features original and design copies -- including rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and gold ingots. Winding through a maze of paths, wall-to-wall shops with vendors from around the world sell yellow and white gold, silver, pearls, and other gems. Because of the heat and fact that many shops close between 1 and 4pm, it's best to avoid visiting the Gold Souk in the middle of the day. The most fun -- although also most crowded -- time to visit is at night, when it's cooler out and the lighted shops sparkle with their gold and precious stones. Combine an excursion here with a walk through the nearby Spice Souk.
