Royal Marine Hotel

• This grand Victorian hotel (Queen Victoria herself visited it on occasion) reopened in 2009 after a major refurbishment that restored its noble historic structure, and expanded it with a less gorgeous seven-story modern extension. Rooms are simply decorated in contemporary, largely bland style with an emphasis on earth tones, but many have sweeping sea views and balconies. The excellent Sansana spa will work the kinks out, as will a cocktail from the stylish Pavilion bar. Locals flock to the lavish weekend breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant. Its location close to the station makes this a good option for those who want to visit Dublin but not pay five-star Dublin hotel prices.
