  • There is nothing like a nice cliché German day out on the town. Beer gardens, bratwursts and European life at its finest, Dusseldorf can throw you right into your dream European vacation. There are so many things to do in Dusseldorf, you're sure to have the time of your life. Take in a bit of Dusseldorf history, visit the Stadtmuseum. The oldest museum in the city, the Stadtmuseum contains a fascinating exhibition about the history of Dusseldorf from the Stone Age to the present day. The main focus is on the rise of the city as an industrial and financial center, but there are also good sections dealing with the Jülich-Kleve-Berg era (14-16th century), the art scene in the Weimar Republic, the effect of the Nazi era and the city today. The exhibition deals with all the city's many facets, including a fashion show featuring clothes from the last three centuries.

For concerts and more, head over to the Freizeitstätte Garath. The cultural hub of Dusseldorf, Freizeitstätte Garath is where several events are held. Artists such as Nadia Birkenstock and Wilfred Schmicker are featured here, along with rock, pop and jazz artists. Cultural programs with activities for kids and youngsters, and other activities are also part of their schedules.

A popular day trip destination for families is the Grafenberger Wald. With its tree-covered hills and lush meadows, Grafenberger Forest is the perfect spot for a long, relaxing walk. It is also great for kids -- the deer park contains a host of different species of deer and the forestry school offers an insight into the region's flora and fauna. Dusseldorf's race track, which is regarded as the prettiest in Germany, is situated on the edge of the forest. You'll never run out of fun things to do and interesting places to see in Dusseldorf.
