Alt St. Martin

Description:

  • Built in the 12th century upon the foundations of an even older church, this small romantic basilica is the oldest church in the city. It owes its continued existence to the fact that back in the 19th century, when the church was being renovated, its tower had to be kept intact because it served as a triangulation point for the Bilk observatory. A telescope serves as a reminder of this story.
