Description:

  • Elephant House is an elegant cafe on the George IV Bridge and its back room offers stupendous views of Edinburgh Castle and Greyfriars Kirk. It serves a wide selection of fine Arabica coffees and teas as well as light meals and pastries. Patrons can borrow boardgames from the staff to play in front of the Georgian fireplace.

Harry Potter fans should know that this cafe is the birthplace of their beloved children's series. Author J.K. Rowling wrote the first novel here while sitting in the backroom, perhaps even gazing over the picturesque views through the windows.  The cafe even has a plaque commemorating this.
