Description:
- Behind the Bristo Square university area is this fine 1749 built merchant's house. It pulls in students and locals with its fine atmosphere and possibly the largest beer garden in the city. Inside, the walls are adorned with interesting artefacts, books and caricatures of 18th century Edinburgh residents. The handsome island bar is partly made of old church pews and is the birthplace of some unique cocktail creations. Try the unusual Scots tipples Grozel and Fraoch chased by one of their fine malt whiskies. During the festival the pub plays host to some eclectic entertainment and there are regular barbecues in the summer months near the 250 year old pear tree.
