Description:
- The Basement Bar and Restaurant is a genuine Edinburgh institution, long favoured by locals and found by savvy travellers. Known for its good quality, imaginative food, carefully chosen drinks list and home-spun cocktails, served by knowledgeable staff in eclectic surroundings. It is advisable to book a table any day of the week as tables always seem to be busy in the separate restaurant area, however the same menu is served throughout the bar where a space can usually be found after a short wait. Certain dishes on the menu change every day from Monday to Friday, the chefs taking advantage of supplier"s specials and seasonal produce to create impossibly priced restaurant quality food. The rest of the menu is made up of staples such as rump and merlot pie, grolsch battered sea bass, or the famous house chilli, nachos and burritos that have sated many a hunger over the past 15 years. Saturday and Sunday the menu takes on a more Mexican theme adding dishes such as sizzling fajitas.
